Issues in Education: How Much Do Voters Know?

In this blog, we will be talking about the education issues in the state. To view the questions I will be answering from the bottom of Mrs. Kallas's blog, please click here.

The people that took my surveys seem pretty educated on what is happening with schools in our state and in the education department. The biggest issue that people choose was school choice. I think that is one of the biggest problem these days, students can live in an area with great schools and great education programs or, they can live in an area with a really bad education programs and not learn as much as other students. I know that one of the problems with letting parents choose what school there kids go to is transportation. I think that if parents choose a school that is not in their area but, they still want the kids to go to that school, that they should have transportation to the school that they choose but, I also think that if the parents do not have a way to get their kids there, that the school should provide at least one small bus for the students. Principals always say the want to help students get the best education but never do anything about a transportation problem but, I also know that I cost extra money for a bus to go that far.

I think that if parents have a problem with something going on then they should approach the problem in a appropriate manner. They should either take it to the school board if it is a big problem affecting every school and all the students everywhere. If it is a community problem with a school then the parents should get together and try to fix the problem or they should take it to the principal or the administrator of the school and do it when it is the right time and to not be rude about it, or else it may be harder to get it the problem solved.

It's All About Me

To answer Mrs. Kallas questions and to see what this blog is about, click here:

My Learning Styles
Having this information is very important because because it helps you understand the different ways that students learn. If the teacher do not understand the way that students learn then it will make the class for the student 10 times harder. Every students learns in a different way. The the student is a visual learner it is easier for that student to be able to look at a power point or to be able to few examples and do them with a teacher and see what the teacher is doing. A auditory learner is someone who just needs a teacher to explain something to them and listen. In U.S. history, this is how most teachers teach, along with a power point but the power point is mainly to fill in notes or is just there for us to see pictures and how everything was but in that time period. A tactile learner is a student that needs to be able to do a hands on activity. Take math for an example, the picture you see to the right is a coloring activity for 2nd grade students. Say one of the leaves on the flower is 9-4 which equals 5. You would then color the leave green. This helps the student see that all of the leaves will be colored green. There for if the student get a problem on a leave that doesn't equal 5, they can see that they did something wrong.

My Multiple Intelligence
Intrapersonal people might get frustrated or upset easier when they feel like people don't trust them or if they feel bad about themselves. For me I get frustrated easier when i'm reading something out loud and I get an easy word wrong, i'm being tested for dyslexia so when that happens I get very frustrated because I know I should be able to say the word. Interpersonal people get emotional very easily. When I hear that someone has lost a loved one or is going through a hard time, I know its not easy because I have been in both of those situations so I know it doesn't feel good. I strongly dislike when someone to going through a hard time and I feel like im not helping them enough. Naturalist people are people that care about everything. from plants, to people, to animals. They like being outside and they like being connected to the outdoors, like me. If I am having a rough day and my family isn't really helping me feel any better, I like to go outside and do my homework out there or just sit outside to get some fresh air.

My Hemisphericity Preference
When learning or doing anything, I tend to use the global (right) side of my brain more then the analytical (left) side. People that use the global side of their brain are more open, they have everything where they want it to be and they don't want anyone to touch their stuff because they have everything where they want it. They are more willing to be open hearted about anything and everything. When talking to someone, you may be more free flowing with your words and not use proper ones, expect if that person is talking to their boss or teacher, then they might choose their words more carefully.

My True Colors
  • cheerful
  • uplifting
  • outgoing
  • free minded
  • loud
  • funny
When people like this are having a bad day, its easy to tell. They tend to be very quiet and they don't talk a lot. They tend to keep to themselves and they don't want everyone knowing their problems or what is going through their mind. When people like this are upset, most people tend to ask "are you okay?" That person will most likely respond "Yeah, I'm just tired." They are most likely lying. They don't do it on purpose, they just don't want to bother you with their problems.

My Biggest Challenge

In response to Mrs. Kallas's blog -

I think one of the biggest challenges that I will face in being a teacher is handling every students different learning ability's. Someone may be math smart but not very good at reading, and someone may be book smart and not be good at math, so I would have to adjust to everyone and not just one person. They could help each other or I can do one-on-one tutoring and I can also get a student teacher to help inside the classroom and outside the classroom.

another challenge I feel I will face is not having the supplies and material I need to have for my students and my classroom. If students do not have school supplies, I want to be able to help them get what they need to have. I don't want my students struggling.  If I didn't have what I needed, I would ask for help to get it.

The Water is Wide Reflection

Recently we watched The Water Is Wide and I will be talking about the different problems Mr. Conroy faces in the movie. Here are some questions I will be answering.

2. Not a lot has changed since this movie, they still have the same learning ways that we have and they learn about the same things we do.
4. Mr. Conroy was confused on why the children did not understand what he was talking about. He used many different ways to teach them until they understood it. At first he used music to teach them different artist and explained to them different things with each song so that they wouldn't get the songs mixed up.
When Mr. Conroy started talking to them about the main land and then ocean on the other side of their island, they didn't know what he was talking about and so to teach them about it, he took them on a small field trip to the ocean so that they could see it and learn about it.
The kids also didn't believe that someone went and walked on the moon so, to prove it to them, he got permission to take then on a field trip to Washington D.C. so that they could see the museum on it and learn about all the different things that have been done in our world and they also learned about all the different presidents and what they did to make such a big difference in our world and on our lives.
5. He talked to all the parents and explained to them what was going on and then they were all for the way he was teaching because they didn't like Ms. Brown.
8. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. always push through and try new things, even if other people don't like it. It is your choice on how you do things, not anyone else.

The leader in me

Leadership observed

Teacher and leaders are very similar by the things thats they do. They are similar because of the type of roll models they have to be. They have to show that they can stay calm and be professional and not over react about things. Ms. Keany is a good example of this. Her classes sometimes get out of control but she is always professional, stay calm, and gets them back on task. Mr. Falcon also does this to. He may get a little mean but he dos it out of love because he wants you to learn and be successful.

My leadership in action

I will not let my actions define me. I will stay calm in rough situations and try my best to work hard on being a better leader then I was before. I will be a better leader in Rawkin Hawks, since I am the only returned from last year I have to step up and help our captions with what needs to be one if they don't know what to do about something. I will also step up as being caption of the varsity bowling team. I can't let my own feelings get in the way. I have to stay calm when something doesn't go my way and I have to lift up other people or if they are down about there score or down because we lost our matches.
